7 Ways to Combat Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever

For some of us, we’re hitting week two or three of working from home- we have lost count. The novelty is wearing off, and cabin fever is setting in. When you’re not surrounded by the buzz of the office, you don’t have your colleagues next to you to share a quick joke with, and you can’t just pop out for a coffee, your days can seem a little lackluster, and if we dare say, boring… We feel you, and we’re here to help! The simplest way to fight cabin fever is to take a break. We don’t mean go make a cup of coffee in the kitchen, pet your dog, or scroll mindlessly through Instagram. We mean actually do something for 10 minutes and then go back to your laptop fresh and ready to work. Need some inspiration? Here are a couple of ways to take a break that will shake the boredom off and change up the pace when working from home.

1. Learn a New Skill

Now is the time to upskill. You no longer have your commute, so whether you’re saving an hour or 10 minutes, use that time to start learning a new skill instead of scrolling through social media, getting progressively more bored. Try learning a new language on Duolingo, or teaching yourself to knit (there are a million Youtube videos, trust us), or even enroll in an online course and get qualifications that could help you further your career.

2. Workout

Gyms may be closed but you can still get your sweat on at home and release all those happy endorphins! Try out the cure.fit app and start using their free at-home workouts. You can choose from yoga, strength, belly burn & so much more… Plus, you’ll feel energized when you go back to your desk (or the sofa…)

3. Meditate

Ever meditated before? Now’s the perfect time to start. The cure.fit app has hundreds of hours of free meditations. Whether you’re feeling anxious, in the mood for a sleep story, or need a quick 5-minute mood changer, the cure.fit app will guide you through the whole process. Now more than ever is a good time to simply disconnect for a few minutes and relax your mind and body. Everything is a little up in the air right now, meditating is a great way to stop, take a breath, and re-focus.

4. Get Organized

If you have to be at home, why not do some home improvements? You’d be surprised how many things you have lying around your house that you could either organize or redecorate. You could spend 15 minutes organizing your kitchen cupboard or hang the frames you’ve been meaning to since you moved in. If you’re feeling a little more crafty you could try repurposing mason jars or decorating your keys!

5. Pamper Yourself

You’d spend 10-15 mins on a coffee run if you were at the office, right? Why not use that time to do a facemask now that you’re at home and no one can see you. Just make sure you don’t have a conference call with video that day… Another great way to pamper yourself is to have a hot bath. At the end of your workday, close your computer, mute your phone and run yourself a nice relaxing bath. We’re feeling more relaxed just thinking about it.

6. Have a Dance Party (by yourself)

Dance! Put on some tunes (try our LUNCH:ON Home Office :ON playlists!) and move your body to the beat. It’s a great way to release endorphins, get rid of some excess energy, and get off your chair! Whatever your song of choice is, dancing around your living room is a great way to get your blood pumping and break up your day.

7. Plan your Day

Another great way to help with cabin fever is to plan your day either at the beginning of each day or at the start of the week. Knowing what you’re doing, how your time is segmented, when you’re taking breaks, and even what you’re eating for lunch can help you stay sane and give you something to look forward to. In case you haven’t heard, LUNCH:ON now delivers to homes across Dubai! You’ll still get free contactless delivery and meals for only 25 AED. Not sure if we serve you yet? Who knows, you could come out of this more skilled, healthier, more mindful, and creative than before. Let us know your tips for combatting working from home cabin fever in the comments below!
