Tips to Thrive in Ramadan During Lockdown

Tips to thrive in Ramadan during lockdown

There is no question that Ramadan is different this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it just as special. This is a great time to take note of what you are grateful for, connect (virtually) with family, friends & your community, and help those in need. We’ve listed 5 ways you can keep up the festive spirit & stay healthy this Ramadan without leaving the safety of your own home.

1. Clean & decorate your space

Ramadan is a month of spiritual growth, mindfulness, and peace. Having a clean and tidy environment can help you feel calmer and more relaxed, and help get you into the reflective & peaceful mood of Ramadan. Another great way to get into the Ramadan spirit is to make your home feel festive! We’ve all been spending a lot of time in our homes recently, so change it up and hang some decorations and light some candles. There are lots of decorations you can make at home too for some added fun! Sometimes it’s the small things that make a big difference.

2. Host or join a virtual iftar with family & friends

Around the globe, people and communities are hosting virtual iftars to stay connected this Ramadan. Why not join an iftar your community or friend is hosting? Or better still, host one yourself! All you need to do is set a date, invite your friends & family to a video call, and make sure you all have food ready to break your fast together! Did you know you can order iftar & suhoor on LUNCH:ON now, so you don’t even have to worry about organizing the food! If you want to plan the food for all your virtual guests, our catering team can help you out!

3. Plan your iftar & suhoor in advance

You may not be hosting or joining virtual iftars every day but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan your own meals in advance. Planning what you are going to eat in advance is always a good rule of thumb to follow but is especially useful during Ramadan. For iftar & suhoor, it is important to make sure you’re getting all the vitamins, nutrients, & energy you need to keep you fit & healthy throughout the day while you fast. Last-minute decisions based on hunger normally don’t end up being the most nutritious! You can order your iftar or suhoor in advance with LUNCH:ON for the whole week & also order groceries and get next day delivery. Top tip, try out our Suhoor Essentials grocery box to get everything you need to make your suhoor delicious!

4. Schedule your day

Ramadan is meant to be a peaceful and reflective month. Planning your day to make the most of when your energy is high can help you be more productive during your fast and taking regular breaks gives you time to reflect & relax. Working from home can make stepping away from the “office” a little more tricky, so make sure you are setting boundaries and getting the rest you need. If you’re struggling to manage your breaks, add them into your calendar or download an app, like stand-up, that notifies you when it’s time to get up and take a break. Top tip, schedule your hardest tasks that require the most focus in the morning, that way you’ll get through the important work before your energy starts to dip.

5. Give back

You may not be able to go out and volunteer right now, but you can give back in other ways. There are many great organizations you can donate to online that help those less fortunate than yourself. You can even donate to Gulf for Good through LUNCH:ON, and help children across 5 countries; Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda, Peru and Lebanon gain access to food, water, and an education. Even though we are apart from each other this year, we can help those less fortunate together.
